Lila and I went last week to a restaurant called Franklin Park located in Prospect Heights/Crown Heights, Brooklyn. This restaurant has a great, spacious outdoor area that has a beer-hall vibe. It’s a great place for the summer/early fall time, just beware that if it rains they do not allow dogs inside (even if you are trying to just finish what is left of your beer.
The Food:
We tried the fried avocado bacon cheddar burger, the meat was slightly overcooked yet maintained it’s juicy consistency. The applewood smoked bacon that was in it was cooked to a perfect crisp with the melted cheddar blending all the taste together with the fried avocado wedges. The special sauce had a chipotle mayo taste to it which worked well with the other plates we tried, onion rings and fried pickles. Both the onion rings and fried pickles were pretty much what you expect for side dishes in a burger restaurant although we did appreciate that neither of them were soggy. (Kudos!)
The Drinks:
We only tried the Pilsner beer they had on draft and it was the perfect temperature which in my opinion is the most important aspect of beer: temperature! (Ice cold is the way to go!)
The Ambiance:
The music had relaxed vibe. There were plenty of other dog owners nearby eating with their fur babies enjoying a cool, cloudy day eating a hamburger and drinking a beer. The attire of the other fellow foodies was basically jeans and t-shirts.
Lila’s Review:
When I got there, many people didn’t notice me except for a mean chihuahua but her owner had her leashed so that was no issue. Next, my mommy asked the waitress for some water for me and they brought me some in a clean, biodegradable, disposable bowl The piece of burger that fell off the guy sitting next to us was really tasty! Afterward, it started raining and even though they seem to have a retractable roof, they did not pull it out so my mommy had to finish her beer quickly so I would not get soaked. I definitely want to come back, just not on a rainy day!
